All Alone in the Universe

Debbie and Maureen have been best friends since third grade. But when Maureen starts spending time with ordinary and boring Glenna, Debbie is confused why and what to do about it. Three is a difficult number in many of ways. Someone always gets left out. It isn't looking like it will be a great summer for Debbie, and the ultimate betrayal comes when she realizes Maureen is going away on vacation with Glenna and her family. There's no noisy breakup here, just a drifting away that owes as much to fate as it does to summer and growing up.
