Olive's Ocean

"Olive Barstow was dead. She'd been hit by a car on while riding her bicycle. As Martha and her family prepared for their trip to Cape Cod, Olives' mother gave Martha a page from her daughter's journal. Olive wrote, "Martha was the nicest person in the entire class." Although Martha couldn't think of what made her feel that way, she was flattered. She realizes her views on life are changing and that a close call drowning made her realize that she could have an accident herself. Martha begins to meet first loves, her grandmother is sicker than she shows, and to figure what life might be about—to her. Newbery Award Winner
