Two people meet while being shipwrecked for three months during WWII in the Caribbean. Timothy is 70 years old and a black slave from St. Thomas who dreamed of being a ship captain. The other is Phillip a 12 year-old who is white, blind and racially prejudiced. Phillip arrives on a life raft after his ship is torpedoed. Timothy teaches Phillip how to survive. Unfortunately, Timothy dies before they are rescued. Phillip goes home and has an operation that helps him regain his sight. They both had dreams. One of them died on the cay. The other was forever changed by meeting the first.
