A hunting ban on the Powhatan is about to expire. The environmentalists want to protect the wildlife; the hunters are oiling their guns. Then someone completely unexpected comes forward to spearhead the conservation effort--the weirdo. Chip Clewt, 17, known as the weirdo, because he was disfigured in a fire, has taken refuge in the swamp with his boss, Tom, along with the bears for company. When Tom disappears, Chip meets a new friend, Samantha and together they try to solve the murder mystery while fighting the animal rights people. One problem is that Samantha is the daughter of one of the opponents of the hunting ban.
